Weekly Fantasy Basketball Position Ranks: Week 17
I hope everyone is enjoying the NBA All-Star festivities going on in New Orleans, LA. If you caught the Celebrity game on Friday, you'll understand why I'd tab Deion Sanders and Terrell Owens as my top fantasy celeb players. However, it's not like they have tough competition. Taylor Hicks? The guy can sing, but he can't ball.
But, anyway... here are Week 17's Position Ranks, which brings the promise of the return of several key players that include Kevin Garnett (always one of the top fantasy players), Caron Butler (a definite fantasy force), and one Shaquille O'Neal (can he reclaim his old dominating form on a new team) to name just a few. Personally, I'm still waiting for Agent Zero, Gilbert Arenas, but it could be another few weeks. In any case, if you own a Miami Heat player, they're only going to play two games this week. However, both Dwyane Wade and Shawn Marion are still in the top 20 players of their respective positions. It's hard to keep a good fantasy baller stud down.
Good luck in Week 17!

Yes Taylor can sing, I agree. A rusty white blues singer who played high school basketball didn’t do too bad either. He did some good defense, helped his team out on rebounding especially in the lane for fouls, he scrapped and did really well passing and getting assists. He drew a couple of fouls and only made 1 out of 4 free throws but hey, thats most of the NBA’s stats. He made a 2 pt jumper. On the last play of the game he definitely helped guard his man so that they never got the shot off like they were supposed to. So all in all, I’d say getting to play ball with Dion and T.O and Lee Merriweather was a pretty good night for a southern boy from Alabama.
Are you talking about that food show that tried to pass for a basketball game? Anyway, we used to have these games as fundraisers, and it was about the fun and enjoying your favorite celebrity. So, ESPN brought in some athletes they could hype. No one expected the others to do as well. And you didn’t mention that they also did some charity work for NO.
I won’t ever watch it again and I only did this time because of Taylor anyway……and I do know my BB.
Agree with previous comment. Hicks hustled and had a couple of great assists which allowed T.O. to score. He brought the ball up the court and played good defense. He was also a good “cheerleader” when on the bench. His one jumper was pretty and the foul shot he got in the first quarter was completely ignored, as well as the assists. Why? Who knows. He looks like he had a great time. After all, it’s a charity fundraiser. I don’t know why there’s any negativity regarding anyone who took the time to play and had the guts to put themselves on the line next to pro athletes. So, kudos to Mr. Hicks.
I wonder if any of the pro athletes would ever get up on stage with Taylor at one of his concerts - and sing or play with the band. Perhaps, if it were for charity or just to have a good time, they might put themselves in a position of vulnerability.
Since this whole game and the day of service involved with it was a charity fundraiser, it just proves that as far as Taylor goes, the adage is true: “No good deed goes unpunished.”
I agree with the comments above. Are there any other contestants out there from American Idol that can play basketball with the ESPN big boys? Give the guy some credit for putting himself out there outside his element for a good cause. For a high school BB player who is now a well known singer/musician playing with Alist athletes, I think he did great, and had a blast doing it. It is amazing to me that when someone like Taylor uses his celebrity status for a good cause, you single him out to talk about skill? I think he was booked to attract people to a game for charity, meaning people who don’t normally watch NBA JAM basketball games, and he did that, played a great game, worked during the service day, worked up a sweat on the basketball court, and his team won! - yet you make negative comments? If you want to make negative comments, why didn’t you mention that T.O. was even late for the game, yet they gave him MVP? How Sad!
Give the guy a break…its been a long time since high school for Mr. Hicks, but the “Hoover Flash” still has some moves! And he ALWAYS has more fun than just about anybody, and that was the point wasn’t it? To have fun and raise money for charity?
Hey Velasco, looks like Hicks had a great time. That’s what this was all about - and charity. Face it, some folks have no sense of humor, man. ha.
Loved me some T.O. action!
Sheila asked if there other American Idol contestants who can play Basketball. Yes, Ace Young was a star player in High School, and Ayla Brown plays for Boston College.
