Atlantic and Southeast Division Reports - 3.4.08

The Fig Cap: "Listen, I had a dream the other night that we would be reunited in Boston... crazy, right?"
Yes, people, Sam "I AM" Cassell can officially finish off his nickname with "... a Boston Celtic." Finally, after weeks of speculation, Cassell is officially a Celtic, which add some of that ubiquitous cagey veteran presence at the all-important point guard position. Nothing against Rajon Rondo of course, but we all know that this current Boston team is built to win NOW! Check out what Brendan Sullivan, our resident Celtics fan, has to say about Cassell and other things going on in the Atlantic Division Report.
What's going down in the Southeast? Well, Gilbert Arenas is practicing, which is always a good thing, but his return is remains a mystery... sort of like where did one of Storm Shadows various ninja weapons go when you were a kid? Did I just date myself? For the record, I always thought his bow was Storm Shadow's coolest weapon with the quiver a close second. Wait, that's not a weapon. Anyway, read what Austin Kent has to say in his Southeast Division Report! Maybe he'll mention nunchakus.

I’m not so sure about this move to get Cassel. I wouldn’t have done that if I was the Celtics GM. Yeah you have depth at PG now but what was the point? Cassell is a shoot first point guard. That’s going to create even more problems for Allen, Pierce and Garnett who are used to scoring 20 a game. Now Cassell wants that many too so I just think they would have been better off without him. The only thing I see him being useful for is the series in the playoffs against Detroit. Billups just would of posted up all day on Rondo, but the plus is he’ll have a harder time doing that to Cassell. I’ll be rooting for them though. The only team that can beat the west IMO.
I see what you are saying, but I think the Celtics needed a backup for Rondo. Previously, Eddie House was the first off the bench at PG behind Rondo, which was outrageous. They needed a second true ball handler. Passing-wise, the Celtics were already a pretty good team. They just didn’t want House and Tony Allen dribbling off their knees anymore. The Celtics needed a PG, and got the best one available for really cheap. I don’t see how they lose with this move.
