Day Four of Olympic Men’s Basketball: Now That Wasn't So Hard, Was It?

Saturday August 16, 2008

Carmelo Anthony Digs Victory

The Fig Cap: "Take this photo, Spain! This is what the exhiliration of victory is like!"

If Greece was supposed to be their first tough test, Spain was supposed to be a truly tough test and barometer of where Team USA stands in the international scale of things. Well, they're at the top... for now. Naturally, the Olympics aren't over yet, but the American team is halfway there - four games down, four games and wins left to achieve what Team USA has been working hard for - shiny, shiny, gold circles on their chests.

LeBron James led the way with 18 points, plus dishing eight assists, and swiping the rock four times. Now, is it me or has Bron really stepped up his game during these Olympic games? ... Okay, didn't think it was just me. He's been a monster, not only on the offensive end of things, but defensively as well. You think he wants it bad?

Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony finished second in points with 16 each? Isn't it appropriate that the aforementioned three players helped absolutely shellacked Spain? The trio have been connected ever since they were each drafted during the 2003 NBA Draft. Then they went to play internationally as well on Team USA, but have not been quite as successful as they have been in the NBA. However, against Spain in these 2008 Beijing Olympics, they not only helped the American team beat Spain, another favorite to take the gold medal, but they took back their basketball manhood.

Look out, world... the mojo is back.
