Feeding The Post: The Last Undefeated Team

Friday November 14, 2008

Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul

* The Los Angeles Lakers are the last undefeated team in the NBA at 7-0 and they're winning with ease, defeating their opponents by an average of 18 points per game. The latest victim? The very good and very dangerous New Orleans Hornets who are led by point guard, Chris Paul, who finished second in last season's MVP voting. Who finished first? Kobe Bryant, who continues to lead the Lakers, of course. His numbers are down across the board, but the Lakers are winning and that's all that matters to Bryant in his quest to win another NBA title without that big guy with the Phoenix Suns, Shaquille O'Neal. Looking at the schedule, the Lakers have winnable games, hosting the Detroit Pistons who are only 1-2 since the Allen Iverson trade, and the 3-5 Chicago Bulls. After that, they travel to Phoenix in what could be their first real possibility of losing. Shaq would love nothing better.

* Greg Oden of the Portland Trail Blazers came back to action after suffering an injury during his first NBA game a couple of weeks ago. How did the 2007 NBA Draft first overall pick do? Not too much as he only played about 16 minutes, scoring three points, only grabbing two rebounds, and blocking a couple of shots. Obviously, things aren't working out for Oden as he and the Blazers front office would like as the only breaks Oden is getting happen to happen somewhere on his body. Hopefully, Oden can stay healthy from here on out and maximize the potential he has to be the next great center in the Association.

* There was a scuffle between the Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns and Ron Artest wasn't even involved! How did that happen?

Lakers are gunning for the title and I think Ariza and a healthy Bynum will take them over the top.

I know the Lakers lost last night, but I totally agree with you, Peter. Ariza and Bynum will make a huge difference, particularly Bynum since he won’t be pushed around down low in the post, both offensively and defensively, which was a problem they had versus the Celtics in the finals last season.
