Does Charles Barkley Have A Point?

Monday December 1, 2008

Charles Barkley

Last week, Charles Barkley, on a radio show, said that LeBron James should "shut the hell up" in regards to James' impending free agency in 2010. Does Barkley have a point? Not according to James who called Barkley "stupid."

The fact that I'm writing about this and speculation about where James will end up in two years is seemingly a daily thing, proves several things - 1) The media finds this an intriguing story and must write about it; 2) There must not be enough news going down to write about; 3) James, arguably being the best player on the planet, is seen as a franchise changer and worthy of this attention; and 4) James does nothing to stop it when he says, "I think you do what is best for you and you do what is best for your career," when asked about his loyalty to the Cleveland Cavaliers, his current team.

So, Barkley sort of does have a point and I say "sort of" because despite all of the media attention, James' Cavs are 14-3 and one of the best teams in the NBA and none of James' teammates have said anything about 2010 and LeBron leaving. Maybe James isn't saying he'll indubitably sign again with his hometown Cavaliers, but he doesn't need to say anything as his play and the results speak volumes for now.

Regardless, the media circus, which includes Barkley, will continue to speak about a potential exodus the same way LeBron will continue to play for a championship... something the King will always do, whether it's in Cleveland or somewhere else.

Yes. Sir Charles has a point. At the very top of his head! LeBron is not the one doing the talking. It’s the NY media and fans that cant stop obcessing and asking him about it.

If anyone should shut up, it’s Barkley and the NY media!
