Washington Wizards Playoff History
The Washington Wizards playoff history goes all the way back to the 1960s, but during a 16 season period of NBA playoffs (1989-2004), the Wizards (then the Bullets) only made the postseason once. The Washington franchise, as the Bullets, did win one NBA championship and played runners-up three times in the NBA Finals.
Milwaukee Bucks Playoff History
The Milwaukee Bucks playoff history got started off with a bang as the Bucks won the NBA championship in only the franchise's second playoff appearance and its third NBA season thanks in part to NBA Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson. After a strong showing during the 1980s in which the Bucks made the postseason every season, there was a drought during the 1990s with the Bucks hoping to get back to the way they started.
Indiana Pacers Playoff History
The Indiana Pacers playoff history is shorter than other NBA teams since the franchise started out in the American Basketball Association before joining the NBA for the 1976-77 season. The team didn't really get their NBA playoff stride until the 1990s with players such as Reggie Miller and Rik Smits. The Pacers still have not won a NBA title, which the basketball crazy state of Indiana is waiting for.
Detroit Pistons Playoff History
The Detroit Pistons playoff history begins as the Fort Wayne Pistons, where they reached the NBA Finals twice. However, the franchise's success didn't come until the move to Detroit where the Pistons have won three NBA titles, including back-to-back championships during the late 1980s as the "Bad Boys" of the NBA, known for their zealous focus on playing hard defense.
Cleveland Cavaliers Playoff History
The Cleveland Cavaliers playoff history, for the most part, has been one of getting eliminated in the first round, which has happened 10 out of 16 times in Cavs history. However, lately, with LeBron James, the Cavaliers have made it all the way to the NBA Finals, only to lose to the San Antonio Spurs in 2007. The Cavs do not have an NBA championship as of yet, but James is the hometown hope of changing that.
Dallas Mavericks Playoff History
The Dallas Mavericks playoff history is one of spurts. During the 1980s, the Mavs made it into the postseason six of ten possible seasons and then absolutely nothing during the 1990s. However, the Mavericks have gotten their mojo back in the 2000s, but still no NBA championships to speak of. But, you can bet the Mavericks won't stop until they do.
Chicago Bulls Playoff History
When you think of the Chicago Bulls playoff history, you have to immediately think of Michael Jordan. Jordan, along with Scottie Pippen and a cast of role players were able to achieve the difficult "three-peat" (winning the NBA title three years in a row) twice! And one of the reasons you must immediately think of Jordan is that he was the face, heart, and soul of the Bulls' only six NBA championships.
Toronto Raptors Playoff History
The Toronto Raptors playoff history wouldn't be anything like its Atlantic Division counterparts since the franchise only entered the NBA during the 1995-96 season. However, the NBA team up north has several appearances and it will only be a matter of time before they are a NBA playoff force.
Philadelphia 76ers Playoff History
The Philadelphia 76ers playoff history is as long as the Boston Celtics', but obviously not as successful. However, they do own three titles, although one was as the Syracuse Nationals. The other two 76ers teams that won titles were led separately by two NBA legends in Wilt Chamberlain and Julius "Dr. J" Erving. It's been over a quarter of a century since their last title and 76ers fans' are starving for another one.
New York Knicks Playoff History
The New York Knicks playoff history is one of success with two NBA titles, as well as of legend due in part to the mystique of an injured Willis Reed taking the floor during a NBA finals game, the spins and shots of Earl "The Peal" Monroe, and the leadership and style of Walt Frazier. Add the fact the Knicks play in "the mecca" of basketball, Madison Square Garden, then you can only imagine what the NBA postseason is like in New York.
New Jersey Nets Playoff History
The New Jersey Nets playoff history isn't something to be too impressed with, especially when you consider their American Basketball Association (ABA) success, winning two ABA championships, thanks in part to Julius "Dr. J" Erving's play. The Nets haven't had the same postseason success, but did reach the NBA Finals in back-to-back seasons at the beginning of the 21st century.
Atlanta Hawks Playoff History
The Atlanta Hawks playoff history starts all the way to the Tri-Cities Blackhawks day where Red Auerbach actually got his NBA coaching start. After his first season there, he left for the Boston Celtics and we all know what happened then... dynasty. In any case, the Hawks did get to win their own NBA championship, their lone championship, while in St. Louis. Unfortunately, there hasn't been any trips to the NBA Finals since the move to Atlanta.
Charlotte Bobcats Playoff History
The Charlotte Bobcats playoff history is non-existent as of now. The closest they came was during the 2007-08 season with a 32-50 record, finishing five games out from a playoff seed in the Eastern Conference. However, the team has only been in existence since the 2004-05 NBA season, so time will tell.
Miami Heat Playoff History
The Miami Heat playoff history is relatively short compared to other teams in the league, but it's bore the fruit of an NBA championship already, which was led by Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal. However, the elation of a championship was short-lived as the Heat were swept in the first round by the Chicago Bulls the following season. However, there is sure to be many more playoff appearances for the franchise.
Orlando Magic Playoff History
The Orlando Magic playoff history consists mostly of first round losses, but they were once close to an NBA championship, making the NBA Finals in 1995 versus Hakeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets. Unfortunately, the young Magic team led by Shaquille O'Neal and Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway were swept. The Magic have not made the NBA Finals since.
Boston Celtics Playoff History
The Boston Celtics are one of the top NBA teams ever and its playoff history and prolific amount of NBA titles is proof of that. Players such as Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, Larry Bird, John Havlicek, and most recently, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce have all donned Celtics green on the way to an NBA championship.
Houston Rockets Playoff History
The Houston Rockets playoff history is a successful one as they have two NBA titles, back-to-back even, as the great Hakeem Olajuwon led the Rockets to titles in 1994 and 1995. Other than a gap in the early 2000s, Houston can basically be found in the postseason on the regular.
Memphis Grizzlies Playoff History
The Memphis Grizzlies playoff history is a very brief one as the franchise history itself is relatively. In the league only since 1995, first as the Vancouver Grizzlies, the Grizz have only played in the NBA playoffs three times and each time, losing in the first round.
San Antonio Spurs Playoff History
The San Antonio Spurs playoff history is rich and consistent ever since joining the NBA from the American Basketball Association (ABA) for the 1976-77 NBA season. The Spurs have only missed the NBA playoffs four seasons in its existence, which is very impressive, as well as the four NBA titles in a nine-year span.
New Orleans Hornets Playoff History
The New Orleans Hornets playoff history is dominated by its postseason appearances as the Charlotte Hornets, the name they started out as a new franchise in 1988. At one point in the early 2000s, the Hornets were expected to be in the postseason, but other than that, the franchise's NBA playoffs experience has been scattered.
Denver Nuggets Playoff History
The Denver Nuggets playoff history is mostly mired in NBA postseason first round exits with most of its success coming during the Doug Moe days. However, it was Moe's best friend, Larry Brown that took the Nuggets the farthest into the postseason - the finals, but of the ABA, the year before joining the NBA.
