The Fat Draft Lady Has Sung
After the draft, its important to assess your team. Several questions you must ask yourself are:
- Where are you weak? Where are you strong?
- Do you have excess in any category or position?
- Whos tradable? Who, for the most part, isnt tradable?
- Which player wasnt drafted and is sitting on the waiver wire? Will he or anyone else on waivers help your team to any degree?
After youve figured your team out, you must now do the same thing for the other managers in your league, asking the same questions above. Once youve done that, youll have a better idea of the whole dynamic of the league, as well as formulating trade proposals with other managers to make your team stronger.
Have you noticed how much of an emphasis Ive put on the beginning of the competitive process? This beginning will be the base of your team and all moves thereafter will be made from here. Everything will now grow from your draft, but it will take constant care for advancement throughout the season and the playoffs.
Tending To The Garden That Is Your Team
For the rest of the season, youll basically need to keep your ear to the ground listening for the latest news regarding injuries, a hot hand, a role player transcending his role, trades of players and how it affects their minutes and their new teammates, coaching changes as different coaches have different philosophies, and rookies on the rise. Make moves as necessary to strengthen your team. Remember, you did all of your homework on players at the beginning, so if any of the situations that I just mentioned happens, youll be prepared to determine which players are worth pursuing and which are not.
The Outro
Do your homework, draft better than everyone else, and keep abreast (one word) of the latest happenings in the NBA. Follow these basic rules and youll soon be on your way to winning a fantasy basketball championship.
Velasco out! Sorry, Dennis couldnt resist.
