DALLAS MAVERICKS
Recap Rewind: The Mavericks big crazy 17-game winning streak came to a screeching halt last Monday at Golden State. The Warrior actually ran away with that one, final score 117-100. Following that, the Mavs returned home to host their closest rivals: the Phoenix Suns. That game proved to be a thriller, with five players between the teams scoring 25 points or more. The dust settled after two overtime periods, and the Suns were left standing, 129-127. Since then, Dallas have been doing the winning thing again. The took care of the visiting Boston Celtics last Friday, and got their six-game road trip off to a good start with a 92-88 win over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday.
Notable News: The Suns had gained some ground on the Mavs in the standings, but Phoenix have dropped two straight as of this writing, putting Dallas 4.5 games clear at the top. They're now 54-11 on the season... The Mavs are currently on a 10-day, 6-game road trip. Eddie Sefko breaks it down in the Dallas Morning News... Head coach Avery Johnson remains hungry despite the regular season success. "We still haven't been awarded anything yet," he tells the Star-Telegram... Looks like Dirk Nowitzki is staying focused, too. Maybe too focused. He apparently had a few sleepless nights after that loss to Phoenix.
Fast Forward: As mentioned, the Mavs have hit the road for a while. They visit the New York Knicks on Tuesday, the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, the Celtics on Friday and the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday. Busy week.
