SAN ANTONIO SPURS

Recap Rewind: San Antonio refuses to go away quietly. After losing a hard fought game to the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night 91-93 the Spurs turned things around to remain in the hunt not only for the division crown but the Conference title as well. After Monday night’s loss San Antonio traveled to Chicago where they dispatched the Bulls 102-80 on Thursday night then flew back home to play Sacramento at home on Friday night who they beat 102-89. Sunday San Antonio traveled to Dallas and beat the Mavericks 88-81 after Dirk Nowitzki hurt his ankle and knee in a melee during the 3rd quarter.

Notable News: Who is the most watched team in the NBA on TV? If you said the Boston Celtics or LA Lakers you wouldn’t be in the minority of opinions. However you would be wrong. The San Antonio Spurs announced that its broadcast ratings for the 2007-08 season currently rank first among the NBA, leading all teams in both over the air and cable ratings. If this trend continues, Spurs telecasts will have led the NBA in these two categories for seven consecutive seasons. Spurs broadcast partners KENS-5, KMYS MY 35 and FSN Southwest have carried a total of 57 games, each leading the NBA with its respected ratings. KENS 5 is averaging a 10.0/17 share through six televised games and KMYS MY 35 has a 10.8/16 rating through 24 games. FSN Southwest has carried the most games to date, rating 6.3/11 share through 25 broadcasts. During this same period, Spurs telecasts have won their time periods against all television programming the majority of the time.

Fast Forward: The Spurs are looking forward to this week as an opportunity to pass Houston and New Orleans in the standings as they travel to Orlando for a game on Tuesday night before hosting the Clippers on Wednesday and the Timberwolves on Friday. Sunday the Spurs host the Houston Rockets. That game will be the last game the Spurs play against Southwest Division rivals.
