The Toronto Raptors, along with the former Vancouver Grizzlies were the only two teams located outside the United States when they joined the NBA in 1996. The Toronto Huskies hosted the league's first game on November 1, 1946.

Also known as The Hangar due to its exterior's resemblance to an airplane hangar, the Air Canada Centre is also home to the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs. The Raptors initially played in the Skydome (now known as the Rogers Centre) before moving to the Air Canada Centre in 1999.
